Thursday 23rd July- Windsurf **** - The Manor, Felixstowe – sunny
periods.
Exocet RF 91 AST with Slingshot Hover Glide 76 with Tushingham Lightning
6.5m.
Foil – 18.44 knot max, 16.75 knot ave ., 8.65 knot hour, 15.80 knot mile
(PB), 38.17 km., 7.55 knot alpha.
The wind Gods keep on giving and we had Felixstowe sailors all over the
country, Hastings being the furthest but others at Bradfield, Levington
(now open but costs £60 to sail but we can use the showers with the
yachtie types), Nacton Shores, Alton Water and Lowestoft! I couldn’t see
any point travelling anywhere when The Manor which is a mile and a half
from my house works great for foiling So after yesterdays full on session I
again agreed to meet Robert who really has caught the foiling bug and is
learning in the open sea, good on him, at The Manor again after dinner. I
arrived at two and managed to get a parking spot and the wind was a tad
stronger today, the side shore SW gusting to 20 knots so went with my 6.5
which was pretty spot on most of the time although it did drop off at the
end! I set off from the beach, easy launch here too and I didn’t have to
walk far with the tide being high only just turned! I headed off broad
again covering three miles quickly downwind in quite a big sea, this is
definitely my favourite direction to foil. I have pretty much sussed
downwind while upwind is a work in progress but I am working on flying on
the beat, not easy when the sea is big but getting there. It was good fun
heading back upwind and after bearing off broad to get flying it is amazing
the angles you can sail and I am only on a freeride foil! On nearing The
Manor I spotted Rob out but the wind was going patchy! Just short of our
launching beach I had to tack and head out and had the best run of the day,
flat out for two miles in a sea that had gone very smooth, just fantastic
getting a PB mile in the progress:) After a few runs out to the Wadgate
Post it was time to call it a day as the wind dropped and I had to wobble
back, so two great days of foiling! And more wind coming for the
weekend!
